In this week's new releases, or at least the ones that have popped up recently on Spotify:
- The Margaret single 'Cool Me Down', which is about 95% as good as it sounds like it is, is finally released internationally this week. A major pop injustice occurred earlier this year when Poland decided not to pick this song as their Eurovision entry.
- Very excellent song singer Loop (she had that song 'Love Bites' a few months ago) has a new track called 'Looking At You', which is really really promising. Don't click on her artist name in Spotify because it will take you to a lot of music by a terrible guitar band. (She's worth a follow on Soundcloud though.)
- Contact are two men and a lady, like Chvrches. They sound a bit like Chvrches. They also describe themselves as 'post-apocalyptic pop' and they're worth investigating further.
- Beth Orton (‽) has released a single called '1973' that sounds like The 1975. It is the second best song called '1973' of all time.
- Laura Mvula's 'Phenomenal Woman' is amazing in six different ways.
- The new songs from Ariana Grande, Meghan Trainor and Kygo are, with the best will in the world, neither here nor there.
- Matoma's new song is from the Angry Birds soundtrack. It is terrible.
- We've chucked the Frank Gamble song 'Something's Wrong' on this week's playlist because we missed it when it popped up a week or so ago. It's ACE.
- The same goes for the Girl Friend track.
- Sean Paul has let everyone down.
We didn't include 'Mumford & Sons', apols.
