2005 was a good year in many respects, but it ended with misery and despair when Hot Pantz — who've probably gone on to be incredibly fashionable as Riot In Belgium or the bloke in La Roux or someone — released '(I'd Like To) Give U One 4 Christmas'. The b‑side was called 'Silent Night (Not!)' and was a version of 'Silent Night' in the style of an American Idol 'Punk'-week interpretation of 'punk'.
The crucial mistake made by Hot Pantz was to mistake Christmas, an annual celebration of sprituality and joy, for an excuse to act like a cunt.
When the CD single — remember, this was 2005 — arrived in the post we were struck by how depressingly awful it was, and we remember wondering whether humankind would ever produce something worse. As 2008 draws to a close, and despite the existence of Britannia High, Hot Pantz still reign supreme.
