NKOTB have given 1D some tips on being a good boyband

New Kids On The Block have given One Direction some advice on 'making it' in America.

Joey McIntyre told Metro that the group's success hinged on the 'swag' of Niall Horan and his bandmates,  saying: "if American girls don't connect with that swagger, it's hard".

He advised them that it would be foolish to rely on the quality of their songs alone, warning that "if it's Coldplay, it's about the music", but for NKOTB, BSB and now 1D too, "it's so much about the per­son­al­ity and energy".

'What Makes You Beautiful' is currently Number 28 on the US Billboard chart.
