'Florence' has been voted the greatest woman in 'rock' even though she isn't

Listeners of XFM have given Florence Welsh the accolade of Greatest Woman In 'Rock'.

The pop singer beat com­pet­i­tion from Alison Mosshart of The Kills, who finished in a com­mend­able second place, followed by Skin of Skunk Anansie fame, Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Karen O and Debbie Harry rounding off the Top 5.

With an apparent straight face, Florence said that being a woman in rock was all about "per­vert­ing the idea of fem­in­in­ity — managing to be vul­ner­able and powerful at the same time".
