June 2012 was a month in which various things happened in ‘the world at large’. But how did these things impact Jesy ‘Admiral Lord’ Nelson? Let’s ask her.
In August, Alfred Hitchcock's 'Vertigo' was voted the best film of all time by Sight & Sound magazine.
Are you scared of heights?
No, I'm not, actually! Jade's the one that's most scared of heights in our group. When we went in a helicopter she cried.
You scaled some dizzy heights yourself in August, didn't you.
August 2012 was absolutely incredible for us. Obviously 'Wings' went to Number One, our first proper single. And it's just literally been amazing. Like, for us to have written our own single [along with Ben Kohn, Erika Nuri, Heidi Rojas, Iain James, Michelle Lewis, Mischke Butler, Peter Kelleher and Tom Barnes — Songwriting Credits Ed] and for it go to Number One, it just felt absolutely amazing. Obviously we'd had 'Cannonball', and that was our first single, but it was the Winner's Single, it wasn't actually our music. It was just so nice to know that people appreciated our music and actually really liked it.
Well the Winner's Single sort of automatically goes to Number One.
Joe McElderry's didn't though, did it?
Erm, didn't it?
No, I don't think so. [It did.]
Poor Joe McElderry.
I know! (Laughs) But I see what you're saying.
It's more of a validation for your own tune to go to Number One, isn't it.
Yeah.
What did you do to celebrate 'Wings' going to Number One?
We had a massive Number One party, and everyone came. It was really really good. I think we went to Mahiki. Oh no, it wasn't Mahiki, we went to The Rose Club. It was really really good.
Oh, so you missed out on one of those Treasure Chest cocktails.
No, I think we had a Treasure Chest at Rose actually, it was really nice.
Can you drink a Treasure Chest all by yourself?
Oh, definitely not. I'm not really a big drinker, to be honest.
Also in August, the Spice Girls performed at the Olympics Closing Ceremony.
Which Spice do you most relate to?
Probably Geri Halliwell.
Is that based on hair?
Maybe. And just 'cause she says what she thinks, and I'm a bit like that as well. Like, I always tell the truth. I love Geri Halliwell — I wanted to be her when I was little.
She's probably the most mental Spice Girl.
Yeah, and I'm a little bit mental.
The Mars Curiosity Rover landed safely on Mars.
Do you believe we are alone in the universe?
No. I don't. I think somewhere among the stars there's loads of aliens.
Would you like to think that, somewhere in space, there's another Jesy on another planet?
No, not really. I only want there to be one Jesy.
Well surely one Jesy's quite enough.
(Laughs uncertainly)
Former Cosmopolitan editor Helen Gurley Brown passed away. She was famed as a champion of the 60s sexual revolution.
Do you believe in 'free love'?
'Free love'? What's 'free love'?
Well, 'free love' is when you're not constrained by relationship boundaries, and are free to love and be intimate with whomever you want.
Erm no, I'm not really a believer of that. If my boyfriend would have done that, he'd be gone. I'd tell him to do one.
Would you give him a slap?
I'd give him a slap round the earhole. I'd tell him to clear off!
The tourbus of metal band Baroness fell off a bridge near Bath.
Jesy, how often do you bathe?
Well I don't have a bath, so I always have a shower.
How often?
Maybe twice a day.
That's quite a lot.
I have one in the morning, and then if I go to rehearsals I'll get in one in the evening.
Do you get quite sweaty?
Yeah, 'cause we dance a lot.
What's the sweatiest part of your body?
My head.
Is that because of your big weave?
Because of my mane, yeah.
Don't you mind when people say that your hair looks like a lion's mane?
No, not at all! That's the image I want! (Laughs)
Neil Armstrong, the first man on the Moon, sadly passed away.
Are your arms strong?
(Excitedly) YES! I'm actually a very very strong person. When I was on The X Factor I beat Derry, Andy and Ashford from The Risk in arm wrestling.
So you'd win in a Little Mix arm wrestling contest?
ER YES. 100 per cent. They're not too strong, to be fair. They're quite weak.

Well thanks Jesy for that fascinating insight into your thoughts on the month of August 2012. We hope you had a satisfactory year and wish you all the very best for 2013.
