25 years of Kylie in 17 minutes. You think you'll just watch it for a bit and you end up watching the whole thing.
Some brief thoughts:
» Our favourite bit is the segue between 'German Bold Italic', probably the 'height' of the cool bit in the middle of Kylie's career, and what comes next.
» 'I Believe In You' is pretty amazing isn't it.
» The 'Giving You Up' video was NOT a very good idea.
» It's interesting (if, on reflection, slightly obvious) how the music seems to plot a course through the last quarter of a century of music. For most of this video Kylie's slightly ahead of the pop curve (because in most instances she's been a deciding
factor in where it goes next), even if in many parts she's also slightly behind the electronic music curve.
» It's also interesting that throughout the era of the Spice Girls pop explosion and even through the vast majority of the whole Steps thing, Kylie had sort of retreated from pop, only returning to pop at a point when the pop scene was in an odd place and in need of a kick up the arse.
» This is a far more powerful video than you initially expect it to be. By about halfway through you realise that as well as this compilation telling the story of modern pop, every twenty seconds you're being hit with a song that either defined or played in the background of key parts of your own life. Yours is a life whose ups and downs have all been accompanied by a Kylie song. You are Generation K.
