Alex Roots is a sparky new songstrel we've written about a few times since last summer.
She was 15 when we first wrote about her but she's 16 now so it's alright for some of you to fancy her, although you are NOT allowed to fancy her in this picture because she is 15 in it, and if you are over the age of about 21 let's face it you're still on fairly thin ice even though the law says it's alright.
Anyway she has her first single coming out at the end of March.
The single is called 'Fake' and it's a diverting little Avrilly pop song. It's the most most 'indie rock' and 'credible' track we've heard from Alex and we imagine she's releasing it early on so that all the important tastemakerszzzzzz aren't scared off by how pop she really is. To this end 'Fake' is being issued with all sorts of cool things, like a sleeve with writing in a 'typewriter' font (fanzines = indie = proper), dates at indie venues and a remix by Plugs ('for the blogz'), etc etc.
How everyone will laugh when she eventually comes out with something that sounds like Cyndi Lauper in an amusement arcade.
Now then. They've made a video to go with 'Fake'. It is not a very good video. In fact it is quite bad. If you have ever seen a video by Amy Studt or if you remember quite good gothpop warbler Betty Curse you probably don't need to see it. But if you want to see it here it is.
You can hear some more of Alex's (very good) pop tunes at her MySpace.
