Sara Bareilles has made an extremely bad video for her new single 'I Choose You'. It features couples getting engaged 'with Sara's help' (to help Sara make a music video).
This is a video whose supposedly 'warm' ambition to capture genuine sentiment is completely decimated by the shamelessness of its viral aspirations. A video happy to exploit the bonkers thing love does to people's brains, wrapping it all up in a notumentary-style clip so awful that it makes the goings-on in the Betty Who-soundtracked Home Depot 'viral hit' seem almost dignified. And at least that video was, we are very firmly assured, not concocted by Betty Who.
Anyway here is the Sara Bareilles video.
(If you have recently got engaged you might find it quite moving. Everyone else is advised to reach for the sick bags, not because you are Down On Love but because your body may find messy and unusual ways to reject the horrific cynicism that unfolds over this video's four minute duration.)
"Mum, tell me about the time you and dad/mum got engaged."
"Well it was really magical, Sara Bareilles' record label filmed it and put a nice pre-roll ad at the front for YouTube viewers. It achieved over 100,000 hits in the first day, it was so magicazzzzzz"
