"Educate yourself", someone said in a tweet to us earlier today. They included a link to this.
What, one wonders, is the 'education' we are supposed to have received from watching Ellie Goulding banging out 'Your Song', the tune featured in the new John Lewis Christmas ad campaign?Should we be feeling more educated about sync deals? Perhaps.
Is there educational value for those interested in how to build demand for deluxe edition versions of albums first released eight monthgs ago? Almost certainly.
For the ad obsessed, are there lessons to be learned about the way advertisers just can't help but repeat an idea that works? Indeed.
And finally, is this an education for those among us who as Christmas approaches enjoy pleasant versions of nice if slightly cloying pop tunes? Yes it is. It is that and much more. But not much much more. Just quite a bit more. Definitely quite a bit rather than quite a lot. A reasonable amount, but not a significant amount.
That is what it is.
