Adele has single-handedly saved the UK record industry*, Music Week reports.
Both her albums — '19' and '21' — have sold a combined total of 2.2 million in the first three months of 2011, increasing sales by 1.5% compared to this time last year.
If you were to imagine that Adele didn't exist and hadn't released those albums then sales would have slumped by 8.7%.
'21' alone has sold 1.8 million copies since its release at the end of January, which is akin to one of those facts on that Brian Cox show in terms of sheer unbelievability.
