Lady Gaga's 'You & I' was performed on American Idol last night. Contestant Haley Reinhart was approached by Jimmy Iovine — Gaga's label boss and Idol mentor — and asked if she wanted to perform the song, which Gaga has been performing live for the past year.
According to MTV, Reinhart was unsure initially and didn't want to "step on anybody's toes", but after a chat with Gaga on the phone she soon changed her mind.
The performance didn't go down too well with the judges, however, with Jennifer Lopez worried that the song didn't showcase her voice, while Randy Jackson was more blunt, referring to 'You & I' as "not that great a song". He hasn't heard the studio version with Brian May, mind you.
