Jessie J has said that she's worried people only view her as a songwriter and not as an artist.
In an interview with The Scotsman, J claimed that too much was made of her history as a songwriter for hire. “It’s kind of come across in my interviews like that’s my main thing and being an artist is second, but that’s not it at all," she said, before going to to talk about how she only gave her songs away to 'make rent'.
“There are lots of artists out there who are just dummies, getting dressed by management, being told what to say and sing and wear, but I’m really proud of the fact that I write songs and pitched one to Britney," she continued. That song for Britney was rejected, but still, she got to send one in and that's the main thing.
Elsewhere in the interview, she talks about not being able to wear ridiculous heels following her much-discussed ankle injury and how she's very much looking forward to being "a mentor, inspiration to young people" on BBC's The Voice.
