According to MTV.com, Lady Gaga asked American Idol contestants to "get a little psycho" and "give them drama" during her stint as a mentor on the show.
She appeared on the show dressed in a black and white outfit that was somewhere between Cruella De Vil and a Cirque de Soleil clown. Gaga claimed she was on the show to be a friend to the contestants rather than to judge them.
She asked contestant Haley Reinhart, who was performing a rendition of Ben E King's 'I (Who Have Nothing)', to "Give them a little Edith Piaf. Give them a little, 'I'm crazy and I'm a laugh away from a tear'".
Gaga also told country music singer Scott McCreery to "get right in the center of that hot dog". It is believed that this was in reference to his handling of the microphone, as she went on to suggest he should pretend the mic was in fact his girlfriend and that the future of his relationship would depend on wether he could keep his lips pressed to the mic for the entirety of his performance.
The contestants didn't seem to know quite what to make of Gaga, with McCreery claiming he wasn't "prepared for how interesting it was". The singer also confessed that he felt the need to kiss the cross he wears on a necklace every time Lady Gaga was in the room.
