Popular music genre pop took a 38.5% share of the singles market last year, which is its highest percentage for a decade.
It also took a 33.5% 'slice' of the albums market, reports Music Week, though mainly thanks to Emeli Sandé's 'Our Version Of Events' to be honest.
Your friend and ours BPI Chief Executive Geoff Taylor had this to say about it all: "In the singles market, Pop [WITH A CAPITAL P NO LESS] grabbed its biggest share for ten years. The great range of digital music services in the UK, integrated into many mobile devices, is making it easy for younger music fans to get into buying music."
Well done everyone. But don't get too comfortable with pop's supremacy — Palma Violets are COMING!!!
