Despite poor critical reception and a total media blackout, Taylor Swift's '1989' sold 1.287m copies in its first week on sale in America, reports Billboard.
Those sales — which rose from an initial estimate of 750,000 — are the largest first week sales since 2002 when Eminem's 'The Eminem Show' 'shifted' 1.322m in its debut week.
It also makes Swifto the first ever act to have three million-selling weeks — following 'Red''s 1.208m and 'Speak Now''s 1.047m.
If that weren't enough slightly boring chart chat, '1989' is now, after just a week on sale, the biggest-selling album released in 2014 (beating Coldplay's 'Ghost Stories') and is the second biggest-selling album of the year in general behind the Frozen soundtrack.
Imagine how many it could have sold with a decent marketing campaign!
