The Hillsborough tribute single, 'He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother' by The Justice Collective, is this year's Christmas Number One single, with sales of over 269,000. That's fucking loads isn't it ladies and gentlemen.
The cover knocked another cover — James Arthur's 'Impossible' — down to Number 2, outselling the authentic troubadour by 45,000 copies.
Mind you, 'Impossible' has already 'shifted' 713,000 'units', making it the biggest-selling X Factor single since Burko's 'Hallelujah' in 2008.
There were no other new entries in the Top Ten, but Rihanna moved up two places to 4 with 'Stay', while Psy's unkillable 'Gangnam Style' climbed three to Number 6. Also climbing three places is Taylor Swift's 'I Knew You Were Trouble', which is now at a new peak of Number 8.
On the album chart, Emeli Sandé's 'Our Version Of Events' climbs to Number One with sales of 178,000. It's the sixth week the album's spent at the top of the chart and it's sold over 1.3m copies in the UK this year. All without any major TV promotion.
The Top 5 albums sold 713,000 'units' between them, so that's relatively exciting news 'for the industry'.
