Zayn 'ZaYn' Malik has collaborated with 'Double Bubble Trouble' hitmaker MIA on a song from her forthcoming new album, 'AIM'.
According to an interview the controversy-shy chanteuse gave to Entertainment Weekly, the pair worked on a song called 'Freedun' using the medium of WhatsApp.
“We just basically did it while I was [in India], because I’ve been here for a week-and-a-half. We’ve just been going back and forth on, you know, WhatsApp."
The collaboration could have come earlier actually, after MIA was approached to write for Zayn's album.
“We have the same publishers and they wanted me to demo some songs for Zayn,” she mused. “Before I started writing properly my own stuff [for AIM], I was thinking maybe I’ll write for other people instead. I really wanted to write a song for Zayn… We had a couple people in common."
So that's how it came about then? You didn't really approach him for your own record until later on?
"And that’s how it came about," she confirmed. "I didn’t really approach him for my own record until later on. First, I thought I wanted to try writing a song for him."
'AIM' is out on September 9.
